Screws ‘n Rods

Here’s the promised x-rays of Howie’s back. Dr. Kebaish really did a big correction. I wish I had photos of the before x-rays. When we get home I will be sure to post some next to these latest films.

There are screws going into his vertebrae and rods are attached to the screws. All this hardware holds the vertebrae in place while they fuse and heal. The hardware will stay in there even after the spine is stabilized. We got to see photos of the surgery, but just on the little LCD on Dr. Kebaish’s camera (a Nikon D70, lucky dog!).

  2. Wow, those look so cool! I am really squeamish, so I could never have looked at acutal surgery pics but I think X-rays are just fascinating.

I know I would (What happens if a screw gets ……) Nope – won’t go there – GOD WILL cover!

Keep up doing what the Doctor says Howie – You can make it.

  4. That’s pretty intense Howie. Glad you are doing well, are you aware of them? I have these two metal rods in my jaw that i can actually feel on very cold days, it’s kind of surreal, they always set off the metal detectors at the Winnipeg Airport.

    Hi Howie,

My boyfriend has seen Dr. Kabaish about correcting his kyphosis (80% curvature) and we were wondering how you were doing post surgery. If anyone else has had surgery by Dr. Kabaish for kyphosis, we would be very interested in learning how the recovery and surgery went. Thanks, Patricia
