Review: Shepard Auto Care in Newark, Ohio

We bought a 2006 PT Cruiser March 20. It needed a tune up and some front end work done on it. I took it to Dave Price at Shepard Auto Care. They’re located at 394 W. National Drive in Newark, Ohio.

shepard-auto-care-newark-2They did all the front end work, plus did the tuneup. However, they did not hear the rattling that I told them about hearing in the rear of the car. I asked Dave to go for a ride with me yesterday so I could point out what we’d been hearing. He still was not sure what it was but had suspicions that the emergency brake needed to be adjusted. He asked me if I could  bring it in the next morning and he would look at it.

I took it to him today and it ended up being the back brake pads’ clips had broken and it needed new brake pads. He put on a new set, which fixed the problem. He didn’t charge me! I don’t know to many garages that would do a brake job for you for free. That is what I call good service.

I’m sure part of it was the amount of money I spent getting all the other work done on the front end. Still, he still had every right to charge me for the brakes, but chose not to.

I highly recommend Shepard Auto Care to anyone who needs work done. They know what they’re doing and they’re honest. They’re doing so well, they hired another mechanic for the shop. That should tell you something.

I thought all the work and charges were warranted and his prices were fair. Below is a list of what was done and the charges.

  • Valve cover gasket set: $62.19
  • Copper Plus spark plugs (we bought the wires separately): $11.96
  • Labor to replace valve cover gasket, plugs and wires $90
  • 2 lower control arm bushings:  $34.74
  • Labor to remove lower control arms, press out bushings, and replace:  $240.00
  • 2 outer tie rod ends:  $120.54
  • Labor to replace tie rod ends: $84.00
  • Shop supplies: $15.22
  • Front end alignment: $59.95
  • Rear brake pads: no charge
  • Total: $764.71

shepard-auto-care-newark-1Shepard Auto Care is a great shop to deal with. We’d heard about them from friends at church and this is the second time I’ve had him do work on a vehicle. I recommend them without reservation!

Shepard Auto Care in Newark, Ohio

There is a new garage in town.  This place was recommend to me by a guy in my Bible study. They did a great job fixing my van and they give a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty on there work. Nice guy, too.

Skorpio’s Gyros in downtown Newark

We got dinner at a new gyro place on E. Main in downtown Newark. It’s Skorpio’s Gyros. Our gyros were very good and their prices were reasonable!

Our meal tonight.

The front view of Skorpios Gyros. It’s in a building that used to be an ice cream shop.

Give them a try if you’re in the area. You won’t be disappointed!

Bread goodness from Great Harvest

We’re so bummed out Great Harvest Bread Company closed their Newark store and no longer sell at the downtown farmer’s market. Their bread is wonderful for a treat. It’s got perfect consistency, great flavor and no preservatives. At a premium $5 a loaf, it is definitely a treat! I guess Newark isn’t a $5 a loaf kind of town. I stopped in their Pickerington store while I was in town with a friend. I still had one free loaf remaining from a drawing the Newark store had, and the Pickerington store honored it. Jalapeno cheddar bread it was! I also got Popeye and Dakota loaves.
