We bought a 2006 PT Cruiser March 20. It needed a tune up and some front end work done on it. I took it to Dave Price at Shepard Auto Care. They’re located at 394 W. National Drive in Newark, Ohio.
They did all the front end work, plus did the tuneup. However, they did not hear the rattling that I told them about hearing in the rear of the car. I asked Dave to go for a ride with me yesterday so I could point out what we’d been hearing. He still was not sure what it was but had suspicions that the emergency brake needed to be adjusted. He asked me if I could bring it in the next morning and he would look at it.
I took it to him today and it ended up being the back brake pads’ clips had broken and it needed new brake pads. He put on a new set, which fixed the problem. He didn’t charge me! I don’t know to many garages that would do a brake job for you for free. That is what I call good service.
I’m sure part of it was the amount of money I spent getting all the other work done on the front end. Still, he still had every right to charge me for the brakes, but chose not to.
I highly recommend Shepard Auto Care to anyone who needs work done. They know what they’re doing and they’re honest. They’re doing so well, they hired another mechanic for the shop. That should tell you something.
I thought all the work and charges were warranted and his prices were fair. Below is a list of what was done and the charges.
- Valve cover gasket set: $62.19
- Copper Plus spark plugs (we bought the wires separately): $11.96
- Labor to replace valve cover gasket, plugs and wires $90
- 2 lower control arm bushings: $34.74
- Labor to remove lower control arms, press out bushings, and replace: $240.00
- 2 outer tie rod ends: $120.54
- Labor to replace tie rod ends: $84.00
- Shop supplies: $15.22
- Front end alignment: $59.95
- Rear brake pads: no charge
- Total: $764.71
Shepard Auto Care is a great shop to deal with. We’d heard about them from friends at church and this is the second time I’ve had him do work on a vehicle. I recommend them without reservation!
Well its not good on the diet but the company was good. We had dinner with our friends Jerry Andrews and Francie and Steve Hiebel. Here is a picture of kimberley enjoying the eveing.

Got my new glasses from Zenni Optical today. I love the progressive bifocal. I had the regular ones and could not stand to wear them. I also love the price of $57 for the progressive glasses. The eye doctor wanted $80 for the progressive not including the frames and lenses. Zenni was $57 out the door.

Well what’s new I still need to work on my diet. Life goes on though. Kimberley is going to have surgery on her neck in a couple of weeks. I hate to see here go through all of this.
I have been getting some exercise though. It was a beautiful day here yesterday so I went for a bike ride. I then dropped my bike off at the bike shop for its break in adjustments. Dave at Peddlers offers free adjustments after you break your bike in.
So that’s about it in my world.
The picture is just a test. This is from a breakfast get together of my morning mens Bible study.

Ok I have pretty much broke all my new years resolutions. What’s new? LOL However those are just goals and I’m still working on all of them, just not getting it done every day.
Kimberley and I have been staying on our diet this past week. She is down 3 to 259 and I am down 7 to 318. Those numbers are not numbers that either one of us ever wanted to see again but that is where we are. At least we are on our way back down.
I went to a men’s game night at the church last night. I had 600 calories left when I went. Well it was a men’s gathering so not much to choose from. Basically it was just a grab bag of candy. I should have brought a veggie tray. Anyway since it was just all candy I decided not to eat anything even though I was starving, well very hungry. I headed for the truck stop afterwords and hit the 24 hour Subway for a footlong roast beef. So that was a big victory for me.
We had a good time play euchre, doge ball, corn hole and Wii bowling.

This has been a rough year for many. I thought my company was going to get by without being hit too hard but this week the hammer fell. Two close friends got laid off from our office along with 120 others company wide. I felt so bad for my friends. I have been through many layoffs and have been on both sides. It never gets easier. It is such and emotional ride. On one hand you are sad because your friends are being let go and on the other you are relieved that it is not you. I hope that this new year will be a better one for everyone.
I for one like the new year as a chance to start fresh. Kimberley dislikes new year resolutions but I look forward to them. I like to set goals and try to make them happen. They don’t always pan out but I think it’s always good to take a look at things and try to better yourself.
So here are mine for this year.
I want to think more before I speak.
I want to read the bible everyday even if it’s only one verse.
I want to eat healthy and lose at least 75 lbs.
I want to blog at least 3 times a week.
I want to walk the dogs daily weather permitting.
I want to watch less TV.
I want to read 1 book a month.
