Bloody delays

There’s been a little delay in Howie’s release from Johns Hopkins. He needs some blood before they’ll discharge him.

Though he didn’t require a transfusion during surgery, one tends to lose a lot of blood in a 9.5-hour invasive procedure like that. Up until yesterday, he’d been on saline IV’s and the extra fluids kept his blood pressure up. After being taken off the IV’s and becoming more active, his blood pressure dropped, along with his hemoglobin levels. So, he’s getting two units of blood. Each takes about 3 hours to download (my own geek speak there, snicker), so his tank will be full around 3:00pm.

We’re still hopeful he might get out this afternoon or evening. Even if he doesn’t get out until tomorrow morning, he’ll be back here in time to watch his beloved Redskins kick-off!

Grow some fangs, pick a Dr., Nurse, or Candy Striper, and get that blood!

With all you have gone through without complications this minor setback will be taken care of easily and the Redskins are probably out there rooting for you right now.
